PFC#4, D-day -2 !

Today, a pretty great bunch of cartoonists from the US, Canada and Europe finally arrived at Minneapolis. It was saturday, everybody was kind of getting jetlag, so we figured out that the best to do before the rest of the residents come around tomorrow should be : just hanging around !
What we can do tell at the moment :
– some artists are so excited they actually started to work on collaborative stuff together at the airport around 5:00 in the morning ! And they even kept on doing it during the flight, which means that well, we got motivation here (and we saw/read it, and that was really good !).
– Deb’ (is it correctly spelled ? probably not) and Barbara did some of the best potato salad we ever had, while Zak did a great job with the saturday night kind-of-firt-meeting barbecue. Thanks guys, that was an impressive meal we got there !

This is coming !

Today, the workshop/class we got with Minneapolis College of Art & Design students just started.
Of course, it will be directly connected with the PFC#4 thing as soon as it will start, so we try to dig a bit deeper into the ways of dealing with narrative construction into the comics form ; which means : oubapo constraints, formal restrictions, collaborative works, individual creation, and ophthalmic migraine !
Attending the class is a bunch of people who know already how to deal with all of this, so this is real pleasure to exchange about the various oubapian stuff that could works here too.
Of course, ChiFouMi wants to thanks the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and especially Barbara Schulz

and Zak Sally for making it happening. More coverage real soon, as this is only the beginning of a 2 weeks

MCAD workshop

And during this time, we are also spending times on the PFC#4/Autoptic project. It’s a question of days before everything starts here, and there’s clearly some electricity in the air : here, Anders Nilsen and Zak Sally are just giving the sunday evening treatment to some particular step in this soon-to-happen PFC#4 thing…

Of course, we can’t wait for that. Oh, didn’t we said that before, already ? Anyway : can’t wait for that.

Hello from Minneapolis !

Ok, let’s be honest : we’re running out of time here as there’s only one chifoumist at the moment, and well, between some workshops to prepare, the residency to adjust, and all the many, many rendez-vous that are making this very huge timetable, let’s say it clearly : this will be something, guys, that we hope will be as great as we feel it at the moment.
The ChiFouMi gang will be ready and in full effect in a few days and the news will start to invades this website (as for our facebook and twitter pages…), and before that, a few news things that comes up these last hours, after a long, slow roasting :

Jugglers !
Our man Anders Nilsen did it again. Not only he managed to get some art to show from this incredible bunch of talented artists that will be part of the PFC#4 thing, but he found out crazy ways to share it with people. Jugglers will happen at Co-Exhibitions, and the reception (with probably all authors and people involved in PFC#4 and Autoptic !) is tuesday, August 13th, from 7pm to midnight, as there will also be music for your ears, thanks to Zak Sally‘s Pretty Ladies latest awesome project.

Minneapolis, we are already totally in love with you.

French publisher ION on its way to Minneapolis !

People who check what PFC4 is all about already found out it should be a huge task to follow everything that will happen in Minneapolis these weeks. You already saw that at the end of the residency-laboratory week, there’s this Autoptic monster event. But before this, Minneapolis people will have a chance to see some great exhibition at the Minneapolis offices of the French Alliance, just next door to Autoptic’s spot : Benoit Preteseille’s ION exhibition.

PFC4 ION EXPO VISUEL

ION is a publishing structure that was founded in 2010 in Angoulême, France, which is run by Benoît Preteseille, cartoonist and auteur de bandes dessinées on his side.
With his ION inprint, he’s publishing books that center the notion of drawing, through a range of small pamphlets that evolves between artist’s books and collections of illustrations.
There’s plenty of treasures to discover here, unclassifiable works, comic-book artists, cartoonists, tatoo artists, photographers, that, aside their daily and usual main works, grow their own inconspicuous drawing practice, sometimes off the record, sometimes experimental. That’s precisely here that ION is digging, thirteen books are available already.

This exhibition is brought to you courtesy of The Alliance Francaise de Minneapolis / St Paul, Association ChiFouMi, Magelis and Région Poitou-Charentes.

Some news from our next rendez-vous…

…that won’t happen nearby our usual base of operations (around Besançon), but where a few members of ChiFouMi will go, along a group of artists on our side, following the residency-laboratory Pierre Feuille Ciseaux #4 which is happening the week before this exciting event called Autoptic !
